When I started playing for a living, I was often called a “typical book player”. Not without reason – because indeed, especially at the start of my career I tried to study and analyze every poker book that was available.
On my site www.rolfslotboom.com, I started adding one or two reviews per month. Slowly but surely, these book ratings of mine started becoming the most popular feature there. The reason was simple: All of my ratings were strictly done based on the quality of the works. I would be brutally honest about my views, and give my opinions regardless of liking / disliking the author, regardless of what is considered “appropriate”, and regardless of my own business interests. People knew that I would have no problems giving glowing reviews to books that were written by the same people that may have shown contempt or disdain to my own works. And at the same time, if I judged a book by my very own publisher D&B to be mediocre or even bad, well then I would write that too – even if I knew that it could possibly make me a bit less popular there.
Once I decided that rolfslotboom.com would be entirely renewed, I took another look at all of my ratings, and made some changes where I felt this was necessary. After all, just because a book was good or spectacular at the time of its release / at the time of my review, doesn’t mean it is still as relevant now. Also, this list is far from exhaustive, and for this reason many releases by poker authors that I don’t find very accurate (for instance, John Vorhaus) or not always very insightful (Lou Krieger, Roy West) have not been included.
Anyway, all books are rated on a scale from 1 (horrible) to 10 (superb), and are listed in alphabetical order.
