And while the “classic” book on tells by Mike Caro is obviously a bit dated, I have to say that I don’t think this new book adds all that much. (Obviously, the fact that many examples are now from hold’em instead of draw poker is an improvement, now that draw poker has become almost non-existent.) Even the black & white pictures are as bad as the ones that Mr. Caro had made many years ago. However, especially for players that are not very experienced, this book could be quite interesting. A new positive notes: · The “Tall Tell stories” chapter has some entertaining stories. · The chapter on angle-shooting and how to protect against it is quite good, again, especially for new or inexperienced (brick and mortar) players. · Daring in-your-face criticism of the tells that even some of the top (tournament) players give away. · From chapter 7 onward, the book gets a little better and more in-depth. All in all, this is not a bad book – but it is definitely not the “Ultimate Guide” that the title promises it to be.
