This book by Mark Tenner and Lou Krieger is a good one, and especially recommended for people who are not very experienced yet. The authors explain clearly the things that are needed to become a winner in this game, and the different qualities that are required to beat the low-limit and the high-limit Omaha / 8 games. They also give a good description of the play of AAxx, a hand that is often terribly misplayed by hold’em players who have made the transition to this game. The only things that I don’t like in this book are the preferred seating position (p.178) and the often repeated recommendation to (re)raise before the flop with high-only hands whenever quite a few people are in the pot already, under the assumption that the deck should be richer in high cards now that quite a few people have voluntarily entered the pot. While this may be the correct play occasionally, and under specific conditions (and even then mostly for deception, so that people know that you don’t always need to have a hand like AA2x or A235 whenever you raise), the authors seem to think this should be done habitually, while I think that from a playing perspective it is sometimes better to wait for the flop to make your move. Also, the book contains not much more than just a few basic / common odds that can be found in almost any piece on Omaha / 8, while people who are new or relatively new to this game would have appreciated a more extensive section on odds and percentages. Other than this, I think this is a good book, that is easy to read, and with lots of good and solid advice.
