The second book in this series and not as good as the first. Lots of hands don’t actually come from pot-limit live play, but have been transformed from no-limit into pot-limit “because the hands would have played the same”. This is nonsense: pot- and no-limit hands never play the same, if only for the POSSIBILITY of a huge (re)raise in no-limit. On top of that, I appreciate Mr. Reuben’s analysis of big-bet money play much more than his analysis of tournament strategy – there are other authors who do a much better job in this respect. Also, some hands have been included from a game named “Irish” which is quite different from pot-limit hold’em, so in my opinion they should not have been included in this book. In fact, it looks like the author doesn’t play pot-limit hold’em nearly as often as he does pot-limit Omaha (the subject of his first book), and therefore the quality of this book is not the same. This is even more so, because Mr. Reuben’s scoring system is just ridiculous. For instance, he gives 10 points for folding on the river with a set of queens to a $25 bet in a $2,100 pot, and only 3 points for a call, because “there is no greater certainty than that his opponent has the nut straight” (hand # 26). Also, in another tournament hand he gives zero (!) points for folding KJo against a small raise, while giving five points for a call and ten for a pot-sized reraise. Now, even when this advice is correct (which I doubt), it can NEVER be this black and white: folding being nothing but horribly wrong, and raising the max. being absolutely correct.
