Those of you who read my regular Ace Speaks poker column in Card Player magazine, know that I'm a
big fan of poetry. In fact, I have dedicated two articles to the subject, called
"About Success - A bit of poetry part I" and "Choices and Considerations - A bit of poetry part II".
What most of you probably don't know, is that I have written quite a bit of poetry myself - Dutch poetry, to be precise. Now, of course these works got nothing to do with poker, but they may give you a little insight in my views, thoughts and feelings in real life - away from the table.
In this section of the site, you can find a selection of poems I have written over the years.
What I do is this. Every month, starting January 2010, I publish a Dutch poem on my weblog, these monthly publications get reproduced over here.

- Terwijl alles om mij heen beweegt (July 2010)
- Toen jij langzaam je gezicht oprichtte (June 2010)
Toen jij langzaam
Je gezicht oprichtte, waardoor
Bij iedere beweging omhoog
Meer zichtbaar werden
Die zachte lijnen
Toen jij je ogen opsloeg,
Te berekenend om te vermoeden
Dat iets impulsiefs komen zou
Zag ik het al. Wist ik het al.
Want, op dat moment twijfelend
Of ik jou wel mocht, of ik wel om jou gaf eigenlijk
Kon ik lezen wat jij dacht, lezen wat jij niet vragen durfde.
Soms is iemands zwijgen vraag genoeg.
Soms is een vraag alleen antwoord genoeg.
Soms weet je dat er niets is en ook niet komen kan
Hoezeer je dat ook willen zou.
Soms pink je, iedere dag, een traantje weg.
Soms ook lijkt het een eeuwigheid geleden.
Maar altijd is daar de pijn, het verdriet, de teleurstelling.
Het gevoel, dat het kalf verdronken is
En dat jij bent meegegaan. |
